Stamina Pilates Premier XP Reformer

This machine is the argument against springs.5

I have over 7000 hours of experience teaching on studio quality spring-loaded Pilates equipment. In the last years that I taught professionally I cut down my insane teaching schedule by teaching group classes on these machines.

They are safer than spring-loaded reformers because of the bungee cords--springs snap back. Bungee cords will move but not with the kind of propulsive really dramatic force you see in springs. Over and over again I watched students do things on these reformers that would have injured them on spring-loaded equipment.

In my own practice lack of attention has caused a moment or two of real danger; the worst thing that happened was a flying bungee cord cutting the upholstery.

Safety aside these provide enough resistance for a really good workout. They are big enough that anyone under 6'2" can do all of the exercises with the exception of the Semi-Circle which is a more intermediate exercise anyway. Students with knee and hip injuries reported that they were more comfortable on these machines possibly because the bungee cords provide less resistance.

Also these reformers do what reformers were designed to do: in two hour-long workouts a week these machines increased flexibility improved back pain and dramatically changed the shape of bodies just like studio quality equipment would. (Yes Virginia there is a way to get rid of saddlebags without lipo.)

Finally unlike some other pieces of non-studio quality equipment I can unequivocally recommend these for even very fit men. The runners bikers and hunters in my classes really found the machine workouts challenging.

Cons: I have never been able to get replacement parts. You will need two people or one man over six feet to move each machine. Attempt to fold them up again at your own peril. Lock them away from children or vice versa--even bungee cords can cut.More detail ...

Stamina Pilates Performer JP

Good resistance workout5

The delivery was quick it was easy to put together it's easy to use. This machine is good for someone just getting into exercise or someone wanting to keep flexible. Anyone into building serious muscle or a more hard core workout probably needs to consider something else. Also anyone short on space may want to reconsider it doesn't fold up or roll under the bed. Stamina AeroPilates Level 2 DVD

Awesome workout!5

I have the whole Stamina series and this DVD is my favorite. It is not for wimps! Once mastered you can tweak the routine to match your level by increasing reps adding the box and pole magic circle etc. I return to this one again and again. Just watching Marjorie is an inspiration. I recommend this to anyone looking to increase strength and muscle tone. More detail ...

Best Machine on the Market . . . Great for Back Pain5

This has easily become one of "our" best ever purchases. My husband bought this as a a birthday gift for me and now we have to fight some nights for who will use it first. I have taken private ($75 an hour session) and group reformer classes ($30 an hour session x5 in a class) locally but needed to use more than once a week which is hard to do with the pricey costs. We bought the risers too since I like being a little off the ground when exercising. It makes getting on and off the machine a lot easier plus my 3 dogs don't bother us as much with the elevation.

My husband has had low back pain for years and I was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia so this machine is a must have in our house to keep us both moving. It stretches and strengthens your muscles and joints and really keep us moving on our rough days. I always get off the machine feeling more relaxed lengthened and energized. After using different types and brands of machines at different local studios this machine is my favorite because: 1) easiest to adjust if you have two or more people using the machine and more adjustment settings then any other on the market (e.g. footbar adjustments for length/height as well as angle. 2) allows quick adjustments of the straps when moving from one exercise to the next and because of the dual strap loop design you don't have to make any additional adjustments between the arm and leg exercises once initially setup for yourself. 3) quick and easy adjustment of springs/tension between exercises.

I would definitely recommend trying local instructors for proper form and safe use of a reformer prior to purchase. Try different studios and/or instructors to see which styles of reformer exercise you like best. Some instructors are more classical (usually move quickly from one move the the next) to more modern techniques (combining props with their moves sometimes at a slower pace etc.) This truly is the best quality machine and the most wonderful form of exercise for anyone with back pain or problems. We hope you enjoy as much as we do and use this machine in good health! More detail ...

Stamina 55-4150 Pilates Stand for Four-Cord Reformers

Great Stand!5

I liked my pilates reformer but it was too low on the ground preventing me from doing certain postures. This was very helpful and easy to assemble and get the reformer installed on it.More detail ...

Stamina AeroPilates Level 3 Workout DVD

Stamina Pilates Level 3 DVD4

These are pretty good workout from Stamina. It is hard to find reformer workouts most people do their own thing when using a reformer but I like following along with someone. It has all the benefits of having a personal trainer without having to pay for one every time. More detail ...

Stamina AeroPilates Performer 4500

Makes me LOVE working out!!5

This is the machine I use at the local YMCA's pilates classes. I am a person who usually gets bored very fast with working out. This machine has changed everything!! The Y was only having classes twice a week and I loved it so much I had to buy this for home. It is amazing!! Makes me want to work out. I got the Stamina videos to lead me through these exercises at home so I don't have to think after a long day at work. The one thing I love about doing this at home...I get to chose my own music!!! From someone who usually hates working out I cannot recommend this machine enough. It gives an awesome workout I'm usually a little tender the next day. Just enough to let me know it's working!!More detail ...

Stamina XP 686 AeroPilates Pro Reformer

Highly recommend this reformer5

I ordered the Stamina XP 686 which at the time of order was titled Calm Pilates. It arrived and I thought I would need my husband to put it together. Husband not needed but an extra pr of hands will be needed at least once. It took a couple of hours to assemble and was relatively easy for this 5'10 150lbs female. No additional tools were needed everything included. Just follow the step by step instructions and take your time while putting this together.

There were a couple of small snags like a problem with one of the rails that had a metal pc welded together (for screws) but one side of the welding was off aligned. I needed to go to Lowe's to get a smaller fourth screw. Worked fine. Another welding snag with another screw for pulley but was able to put in a spacer/bolt and wingnut till the replacement part arrives. Minor things really. Stamina products customer service is fantastic and so helpful.

Once assembled it was wonderful! This is a commercial reformer. I am soooo glad I took the chance and got it as my Mother's day gift to myself. It's great for all classical pilates moves that use a reformer. Great for the intermediate - advance follower to workout at home. This is fine for the beginner too but I would recommend watching the videos level 1 and reading method books. Do take a few classes to learn proper technique esp. since you can really advance on this reformer. A reformer like this is a lifetime investment to your health & fitness.

The XP686 has a removable metal footbar and uses 5 springs not 3-4 cords like the XP555. The padding is very comfortable and shoulder pads adjusts to two widths...I have broad shoulders so this is a plus for me.

Two workout DVDs are included. For those needing a cardio workout there is a rebounder also included. I do have to order the box and pole set separately for $99 reason I am here now. This reformer is so stable professional quality and very attractive/modern looking. Best pc of equipment I've bought since my treadmill. Would definitely recommend this to others as it had been recommended to me.

It was delivered in two boxes which I kept. Since I will be moving in 6 months and will have to disassemble it. I have no problem with this at all.

Warning: This is a heavy pc of equipment so rolling it (as stated you could for storage) is not an option...at least not for this person.More detail ...

Stamina AeroPilates Reformer with Free-Form Cardio Rebounder

Great piece of equipment!5

This is a good sturdy quality piece of equipment. I was afraid it might not be stable and function like some of the larger or more expensive reformers. This definitely holds it's own and I'm glad I got this one because I can keep it by the wall and then easily slide it over for the workout. All of the parts work smoothly. As far as the trampoline in the lying down position I need to start slowly or I get a little nauseous. Most importantly I have a herniated disc in my center back and the Pilates exercises are helping me enormously. I highly recommend it.More detail ...

Gaiam Coreplus Reformer

Good Beginner Program2

I bought this with the hope that it would mimic Refromer exercises without having to pay $2000-$3000 for and actual reformer. What the band does is make classic pilates exercises easier rather than adding much resistance. If you are a beginner it is a good place to start but if you are already expereined with Pilates mat work you will get a better workout by doing the mat series alone.More detail ...

Stott Pilates At Home SPX Reformer

thrilled5

Omg it's great. It's very high quality (that's the reason I wanted Stott to begin with). This is a lifetime purchase machine. It is the home version so it is lower to the ground than the studio version but it feels every bit as sturdy. It's the full length (I'm 5'10" and I have plenty of room on it.) Sturdy sturdy sturdy and totally quiet. It has wheels so I can move it even though it is pretty heavy. Took about 10 minutes tops to set it up it came 90% set up basically I popped in the headrests put the cables through and I was set up. I had to read the wording carefully on how to make sure the cables were the right length but after reading it 3 times I understood what they meant. Professionally packed (check list was done by hand and everything was there). I paid $0 for shipping via Amazon if I bought it directly through Stott they wanted an extra $300 for shipping. The shipping company was great (Eagle). They brought it right to my apartment. I am 100% thrilled with this. I have to pay $75 a session in my local Pilates studio (plus tax) to get a reformer workout once a week. Now I can do it everyday if I want and it will pay for itself in no time. Great quality. Can't find a thing to complain about other than now I have a huge empty box I have to break down and get out of my apartment. Yes a lot of money but if you've been going to a studio for the last two years like I have -- worth it!!!More detail ...
